Rise Up Foundation Nepal (RUF-N) is a leading non-profit committed to creating a just and sustainable society by ensuring marginalized women, children, and gender minorities have access to education, healthcare, and social protection. Through co-creation and community-led initiatives, it empowers individuals with innovative health solutions, education, and advocacy for gender and environmental justice.
Although Rise Up Foundation Nepal was legally registered in May 2024, our journey began in 2023 as a grassroots forum responding directly to community needs before formal registration, in line with Nepali law. Our organization was founded by young women and LGBTIQA+ community members, many of whom are survivors of gender-based violence and social discrimination. The founding team brings over five years of hands-on experience in advancing women’s human rights, leadership, reproductive health, and child rights at the grassroots level.
Our roots are deeply embedded in the communities we serve – we are not outsiders, but members of the very populations affected by the issues we address. This lived experience shapes our approach and ensures our work is relevant, empathetic, and impactful. Most of our members contribute their time voluntarily, allowing over 80% of project funds to go directly to community activities rather than overhead. We do not rely on intermediaries or third parties; instead, our team leads and implements all interventions directly, fostering trust and accountability.
Our founders’ engagement with the South Asian Young Women’s Leadership and Mentorship Initiative, in partnership with the Global Fund for Women and local CSOs, has further strengthened our leadership and advocacy skills. Our commitment to community-led, survivor-driven action sets us apart and ensures that our interventions are sustainable, inclusive, and transformative.
